In a significant geopolitical move, Russia has officially recognized the Taliban-led “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan,” citing the need to boost cooperation in counterterrorism and narcotics control. The decision was announced by Russia’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, in an interview with Russian media.
Kabulov emphasized that Moscow’s recognition aims to formalize bilateral economic cooperation and strengthen efforts to curb transnational threats originating from Afghan soil.
