The local head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) in Tehsil Barawal, District Dir, Mufti Habibullah Haqqani, was shot and killed by unidentified assailants late last night, police confirmed. According to initial police reports, unknown attackers broke into the residence of Mufti Habibullah Haqqani and opened fire, fatally wounding the senior cleric. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Law enforcement officials said a search operation is underway to trace and apprehend those responsible for the targeted killing.
