In a major counter-terrorism success, a senior khariji commander identified as Maulvi Nazir was killed in a joint operation conducted by police and intelligence agencies in the mountainous region along the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) border, officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to police sources, the operation was launched after confirmed reports of khawarij presence in the rugged terrain. The target, Maulvi Nazir, described as a high-ranking Khariji commander, was eliminated after a brief exchange.

“This was a high-value target with a history of involvement in terror activities across the region,” said a senior security official. “The operation was conducted with precision, and we received vital support from local residents who provided actionable intelligence.”

The intelligence-led raid is being hailed as a major blow to terrorist networks attempting to regroup in hard-to-access areas near the provincial border. No casualties were reported among the security personnel involved.

Authorities emphasized that the slain commander had long been on the radar of counter-terrorism units, and his death is expected to disrupt planned operations by khawarij in the region.

“Community cooperation played a crucial role in the success of this operation,” police added, crediting local vigilance as a key factor in tracking down Nazir’s movements.
