Nation Observes Day of Gratitude to Honour Armed Forces on Historic Success of Operation Bunyān Mursūs

The nation is observing a Day of Gratitude today to commemorate the historic success of Operation Bunyān Mursūs, launched in response to Indian aggression. The day is being marked with solemn ceremonies, national pride, and tributes to the valiant personnel of Pakistan’s armed forces.

The Day of Gratitude began with Quran recitations and special prayers in mosques across the country. A 31-gun salute was presented in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes were held in all provincial capitals, honouring the resilience and sacrifices of the armed forces.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held in Islamabad and all provincial capitals, while special events were organized at Mazar-e-Quaid and Mazar-e-Iqbal, including the traditional change-of-guard ceremonies.

Floral wreaths were laid at memorials of martyrs across the country, where special prayer gatherings were also held. Families of the martyrs of Operation Bunyān Mursūs were honoured through personal meetings and tributes, while Friday sermons included special prayers for the safety, prosperity, and strength of Pakistan.

The main event of the Day of Gratitude will be held tonight at Pakistan Monument in Islamabad. The Prime Minister will attend as the chief guest, alongside the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the heads of Pakistan’s armed forces.

It may be recalled that in the night between May 6 and 7, Pakistan responded decisively to Indian military aggression by downing five enemy fighter jets, including three Rafales. The retaliatory action culminated on May 10 with a resounding demonstration of Pakistan’s sovereignty and resolve—earning global recognition and even drawing critical voices from within India itself.

The Day of Gratitude serves not only as a tribute to the bravery and professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces but also as a reaffirmation of the nation’s unity, pride, and unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty at all costs.
