Militants fired multiple rockets toward the city of Parachinar in Kurram district over the past 24 hours in what security sources describe as an attempt to destabilize the area amid ongoing tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
According to initial reports, six rockets were launched toward Parachinar during the night, while three additional rockets were fired on Saturday, bringing the total number of projectiles to nine.
Authorities said the rockets landed near civilian areas rather than military installations. No casualties were reported in the attacks, but the incident caused panic among residents and raised security concerns in the region.
Security sources said the pattern of the attack suggests an attempt by militants associated with Fitna al-Khwarij, a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to create unrest in the border belt.
Officials believe the militants are trying to exploit the current tensions between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban in order to ignite a new front of instability in Pakistan’s frontier districts.
Analysts say such actions are often part of hybrid or proxy strategies, where non-state militant networks are used to provoke unrest rather than engaging in direct confrontation.
Pakistan’s armed forces and security institutions are closely monitoring the situation and have intensified vigilance in the region to prevent further attacks or infiltration attempts.
