Pakistan repatriated a total of 891 Afghan nationals on Monday, May 5, as part of its ongoing effort to facilitate the voluntary return of undocumented and registered Afghan citizens through designated border crossings.
According to official data, 159 Afghan families crossed back into Afghanistan from the Hamza Baba Transit Camp in Landikotal, located near the Torkham border in Khyber district. Of these, 74 families (420 individuals) held Afghan Citizen Cards (ACC), while 85 families (471 individuals) were undocumented. The combined total included 159 men, 153 women, and 579 children.
In parallel, repatriation efforts continued at the Angoor Adda crossing in South Waziristan, where four undocumented families, consisting of 28 individuals—including 7 men, 6 women, and 15 children—voluntarily returned to Afghanistan. No ACC, POR (Proof of Registration), or documented individuals were among those repatriated from this location, and no forced deportations were recorded during the 24-hour reporting window.
The repatriation is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy, launched in September 2023, to manage the return of Afghan nationals in phases. Since the beginning of the campaign, over 8,300 individuals have crossed back into Afghanistan via Angoor Adda alone, including 1,386 families, 2,324 men, 2,125 women, and 3,852 children.
Pakistan currently operates multiple official crossing points for Afghan repatriation. These include Torkham, Ghulam Khan, Kharlachi, and Angoor Adda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Chaman, Badini, Barab Chah, and Noor Wahab in Balochistan. The use of multiple checkpoints allows for smoother processing, reduced congestion, and region-specific facilitation.
Authorities have emphasized that the repatriation process remains voluntary, with facilities at transit camps providing basic support, transportation, and documentation assistance. Despite logistical challenges and the complexity of cross-border movement, Pakistan continues to manage the return effort in coordination with Afghan authorities and humanitarian partners.
