30 Khawarij Attack Remote Bannu Check Post; Police and Locals Turn the Tide

A coordinated attack by Khawarij militants on Mazanga Police Check Post, located within the jurisdiction of Huwaid Police Station, was successfully repelled late at night due to the swift and courageous response of police personnel, timely reinforcement by security forces, and active support from local residents.

According to official details, approximately 30 to 35 Khawarij militants launched a multi-directional assault on the remote Mazanga Check Post, situated near the Tochi River, at around 12:30 AM. The attackers reportedly used heavy and automatic weapons in an attempt to overrun the post under the cover of darkness.

However, the police personnel deployed at the check post demonstrated exceptional vigilance and professionalism. They immediately returned fire, engaging the attackers and preventing them from breaching the facility. Their prompt and determined response forced the militants into a prolonged gun battle that lasted for nearly one hour.

Upon receiving information about the attack, District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Mr. Yasir Afridi, personally led reinforcements dispatched from Police Lines Bannu. Additional security contingents from nearby posts including Fateh Khel, Sardi Khel, and Jani Khel also rushed to the scene to support the defenders and secure the surrounding area.

The coordinated counter-action by police and security forces significantly weakened the attackers’ position. Facing strong resistance, the Khawarij militants suffered casualties and were ultimately forced to retreat. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the militants fled the area on motorcycles, carrying their wounded companions.

Importantly, no police personnel sustained any loss of life or property during the attack.

A notable aspect of the incident was the brave participation of local residents of Mazanga, who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the police. Community members reportedly came out of their homes and opened fire on the attackers, demonstrating a strong collective resolve against Khawarij violence. Their support played a crucial role in thwarting the assault and sending a clear message that the local population stands united with law enforcement against militancy.

Following the attack, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bannu Region, Mr. Sajjad Khan, praised the professionalism and bravery of the officers involved. He stated: “The successful defense of Mazanga Check Post is a testament to the professional capability and courage of our police personnel. Khawarij militants must realize that the land of Bannu has become extremely hostile for them. The unity between the police and the public is our greatest strength in this fight.”

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Zulfiqar Hameed, also commended the police and security forces for their effective response. Appreciating the extraordinary courage displayed by the personnel and the cooperation of the local community, he described the incident as an example for the entire provincial police force.

The IGP further announced special rewards and commendation certificates for the officers and personnel who demonstrated exceptional bravery and professionalism in defending the check post.

Meanwhile, search and clearance operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas to track down the fleeing Khawarij militants and ensure complete security in the region.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability, emphasizing that any attempt by Khawarij elements to destabilize the region will be met with decisive and coordinated action by law enforcement agencies and the community alike.
