Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply on Sunday as Iran launched a second wave of missile and drone attacks on Israel, killing at least 10 people and injuring over 200, according to international media reports.

In a two-phase assault, Iran reportedly fired 100 missiles in the first round and 50 in the second, targeting multiple Israeli cities including Tel Aviv, Haifa, Tamra, and occupied Jerusalem. Explosions were heard across the country, triggering nationwide sirens and widespread panic.

Several residential and commercial buildings were destroyed, with fires erupting at key sites, including an oil refinery in the coastal city of Haifa. The advanced Iranian missiles included Emad, Ghadr, and Kheibar Shekan, along with hybrid drone-missile systems that overwhelmed Israel’s Iron Dome defence system.

“The scale of destruction is unprecedented,” an Israeli civil defence official told local media. “Emergency teams are struggling to manage the fallout.”

In Beit Yam, 35 people were reported missing after a direct hit. Residents described terrifying scenes as buildings shook and streets were filled with debris.

While some Iranian missiles were reportedly intercepted over Jordanian airspace, several still penetrated deep into Israeli territory. Israel confirmed that Iranian fighter jets briefly breached northern Israeli airspace, a rare and alarming escalation.

The Israeli military acknowledged the attacks and confirmed extensive damage. The use of advanced Iranian weaponry is being closely analysed by Israeli defence analysts and international observers.

The situation is now seen as a tipping point, with fears of a wider regional war growing by the hour.
