MIANWALI – In a major counter-terrorism success, ten khwarij were killed during a joint operation conducted by Punjab Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Makarwal area of Mianwali, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to a police spokesperson, the operation was launched following intelligence reports about the presence of armed militants in the region. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the deaths of ten foreign-linked militants, with reports of several others injured.
One civilian was injured in the crossfire, sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. He has been shifted to a hospital for treatment. Police and CTD personnel remained unharmed during the operation.
Punjab Inspector General Usman Anwar praised the Mianwali police for their “remarkable achievement” and reaffirmed the force’s resolve to crush terrorist threats. “Punjab Police is fully alert and will continue to foil the evil plans of terrorists,” he stated.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also lauded the brave officers of Punjab Police and CTD, congratulating them on eliminating more than ten militants. He hailed the operation as a “significant victory” against extremist elements and commended the courage and commitment of the security forces involved.
The successful operation is being viewed as a strong message to militants that their activities will not go unchallenged in Punjab.
