The National Assembly was informed on Wednesday that more than 1.3 million Afghan refugees have been repatriated to their home country since 2007 under the UNHCR-facilitated programme, while over one million undocumented Afghans have been sent back under the ongoing repatriation initiative.
Interior Minister, briefing the lower house of Parliament, said that a total of 1,377,024 Afghan refugees holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards were repatriated to Afghanistan through the UNHCR repatriation programme since 2007. In addition, he stated that 1,002,230 undocumented Afghan nationals—including those holding Afghan Citizen Cards (ACC)—have been repatriated under the Illegal Foreigners’ Repatriation Plan (IFRP) launched in November 2023. The figure is up to May 7, 2025.
The repatriation drive is part of the government’s broader strategy to regulate the presence of foreigners and ensure border management in line with national security and legal frameworks.
