Amid heightened tensions in Balochistan, a viral video purportedly showing a massive explosion on a road was widely circulated on social media, with claims that the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) had targeted Pakistani military buses in Nushki, killing 90 soldiers. However, an investigation by the PTI Fact Check Desk has revealed that the video has been misrepresented.
The viral clip, resembling CCTV footage, actually dates back to January 2025 and depicts a bus explosion in Turbat, Balochistan. Contrary to claims made on social media, the explosion was not linked to any recent military operation or attack in Noshki. The misleading video was falsely presented as evidence of a fresh BLA attack, fueling misinformation amidst an already tense security situation in the region.
The false claim gained traction after an X (formerly Twitter) user, ‘Yati Sharma,’ posted the video on March 16, alleging that Baloch separatists had killed 90 Pakistani soldiers in a targeted bombing. The caption, originally in Hindi, read: “Baluchistanis have turned Pakistan into a mess. Video surfaced today in which Baluchistan’s BLA blew up Pakistani buses in which 90 Pakistani soldiers were killed.” The post garnered over 9,672 views before fact-checkers flagged it as misleading.
The circulation of the doctored narrative comes just days after the BLA’s hijacking of the Jaffar Express, where over 450 passengers were taken hostage before Pakistani security forces claimed to have neutralized the attackers. The spread of false information further complicates an already volatile situation in the province, where security concerns remain high.
Authorities urge social media users to verify information before sharing, as misinformation can escalate tensions and mislead the public. Fact-checking efforts remain crucial in preventing the spread of baseless claims that distort the realities on the ground.
