Viral Video Misrepresents Facts: Footage from Afghanistan Falsely Linked to Pakistan Army

A video that gained rapid traction on social media, falsely claiming that the Pakistan Army had been encircled by terrorists in South Waziristan, has been proven to be misleading and factually incorrect.

A detailed investigation has established that the video is not from Pakistan but was recorded in Afghanistan’s Khost province during the fall of Kabul in August 2021. The vehicles seen in the footage bear clear markings of the Afghan National Army (ANA), with “Afghan Force” visibly inscribed on them. The uniforms worn by the personnel further confirm their affiliation with Afghan forces, not the Pakistan Army.

The footage captures a moment when Afghan troops were surrendering to the Taliban, and has no connection to any current security situation in South Waziristan. The deliberate or inadvertent misrepresentation of such content not only distorts public perception but also undermines factual discourse.

Social media users are strongly advised to verify the origin and context of such material before circulating it. Responsible sharing is essential to curbing the spread of disinformation and maintaining the integrity of public communication.
