Residents Join Police as Counterterror Operation Intensifies in Lakki Marwat

Lakki Marwat, Counterterror Operation, Pakistan's War on Terror

Residents of Lakki Marwat joined hands with police on Thursday as a coordinated operation against militants unfolded in parts of the district, resulting in the killing of two terrorists and the arrest of four others alive.

Local officials said the action began after intelligence reports indicated the presence of suspected militants in nearby localities, prompting police units to launch a targeted search and clearance operation. As the operation intensified, local residents also came out in support of the security forces, assisting authorities by blocking escape routes and sharing information about suspicious movement.

Police sources confirmed that during an exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed, while four others were captured alive. Security personnel recovered weapons and ammunition from the suspects, while a search of surrounding areas was continuing to ensure no accomplices managed to flee.

Authorities described the public participation as a “rare but powerful show of unity” against militancy in the district, where communities have repeatedly faced threats from outlawed groups in recent years. Additional police contingents and personnel from other law-enforcement agencies were deployed to secure the area and prevent any retaliatory activity.

Officials added that the arrested suspects were being shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation, which could help security agencies trace their network and possible links with militant outfits operating in southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The operation was still ongoing at the time of filing this report, with authorities vowing to continue the crackdown until the area is fully cleared of militant elements.
