FACT CHECK: TTP’s Claim of Successful Attack in Dera Ismail Khan is Fabricated

Background

A statement attributed to the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been circulating on various social media platforms, claiming that its militants launched a successful attack on military and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in the Daraban Subdivision of Dera Ismail Khan. The group alleged that several personnel were killed or injured, three vehicles were damaged, and that its fighters safely withdrew from the area.

Fact

The claim is false and misleading.

Verified Information

Contrary to the TTP’s statement, official sources confirm that a joint counter-terrorism operation was conducted by the CTD and district police  in the Daraban and Kot Isa Khan areas of Dera Ismail Khan. The objective of the operation was to target known terrorist hideouts in the region.

During the operation, an intense exchange of fire took place between law enforcement personnel and the militants. Security officials reported that multiple terrorists were killed and injured during the engagement. Under sustained fire from the police, the remaining suspects fled towards nearby forested areas.

Two terrorist facilitators were apprehended during the operation and shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

It is also pertinent to note that the same group of terrorists had launched an attack on police personnel in the Daraban area a day earlier, prompting the security response.

Conclusion

The TTP’s claim of launching a successful offensive against security forces is unsubstantiated and contradicts verified accounts from official sources. The operation was a proactive move by law enforcement, resulting in losses for the terrorist group and forcing its members to retreat. The militant narrative circulating online is a deliberate attempt at misinformation and psychological warfare.
