The Incident
Four people, including a father and his son, were killed in Bannu on January 13, 2025, following a dispute over a motorcycle transaction. The incident occurred during negotiations related to the buying and selling of a motorcycle, when an argument over payment escalated into gunfire.
The deceased were identified as Naseeb Rehman son of Hameed Rehman, Hameed son of Naseeb Rehman, Ziaullah son of Akbar Sultan, and Bismillah Jan.
The Claim
Soon after the incident, several social media accounts associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters began circulating claims linking the killings to PTI and a local peace committee. These posts attempted to frame the incident as politically motivated, despite the absence of any official confirmation or evidence.
The Findings
Local sources and residents familiar with the incident have confirmed that the dispute was purely personal in nature and stemmed solely from a disagreement over the motorcycle deal. No political party, group, or peace committee was involved in the incident.
There is no evidence to support the claims circulating online that suggest a political or organizational connection.
The Verdict
The claim that the Bannu incident was linked to PTI or any peace committee is false. The killings resulted from a private financial dispute and were later misrepresented on social media through misleading and unverified narratives.
The public is advised to rely on verified information, avoid spreading unconfirmed claims, and refrain from amplifying propaganda that could undermine peace and public order.
