Security Sources Dismiss Viral Claim of Attack on Forces’ Check Post in Kech as Fake News

Security sources on Wednesday dismissed as false a viral claim circulating on social media that militants had attacked a security forces’ check post in the Mand area of Kech district, causing casualties.

According to officials, the claim was spread by banned militant groups as part of a disinformation campaign and has no basis in fact. They said no such attack took place, nor were security personnel harmed in the area.

Sources said militant outfits operating in Balochistan have increasingly resorted to spreading fake news on social media following sustained security operations that have significantly weakened their operational capacity and support base.

Officials added that banned groups, including the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), have been facing continuous setbacks due to successive intelligence-based operations carried out by security forces across the province. As a result, they said, such groups are attempting to exaggerate or fabricate incidents to create an impression of activity and relevance.

Security officials further noted that recent developments, including the reported absorption of smaller militant factions into larger outfits, reflect internal fragmentation and declining strength rather than expansion.

They said the public, particularly in Balochistan, has increasingly rejected militant narratives and urged citizens to rely only on verified sources for information, warning that disinformation campaigns are aimed at creating fear and confusion.

Security forces, the sources said, remain on high alert and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the province.
